Strengthening Islamic Studies in Strategic Arenas

In an age of increasingly complex challenges, the presence of Faris Ibrahim as an Islamic Studies lecturer at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) is a significant marker that religious knowledge is not only relevant in mosques or pesantren but also in the nation’s strategic centers of learning. As an alumnus of the MA in Islamic Studies program at the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII) and a graduate of Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Faris carries the solid scholarly foundation of the classical ulama, combined with a keen awareness of contemporary challenges. Teaching at a prestigious institution like ITB is not merely an academic opportunity; it is a trust to instill the values of Islam as rahmatan lil ‘alamin into future leaders who will shape the fields of technology, science, and policy.

His academic journey, which has taken him from Cairo to Depok, reflects a determination to bridge the treasures of classical scholarship with the realities of the present. Faris actively writes, researches, and engages in discussions on Islamic political thought, the history of Islamic law, and the intersection of Islam and popular culture. His ability to work fluently in both Arabic and English scholarly traditions places him among a generation of young ulama ready to engage the world without losing their roots. His role at ITB is living proof that Islamic Studies, when taught with depth and wisdom, can serve as a source of inspiration, moral guidance, and civilizational direction in the midst of the rapid currents of global change.
